The Magical Handshake ~ Perhaps you have Used it? By Faith Faith BBE, CTM, NE

Everyone knows the value of an excellent first impression. In mere seconds of the meeting, people attain an array of details about us. They notice our face, hair, clothing, bodily proportions, posture, demeanor as well as the sound of our own voice. It’s an essential time because there is no second possiblity to produce a good first impression.

Then it happens … the handshake.

One time i took a communications class with a nearby church. The teacher had 30+ attendees fall into line single file. The instructions would look him within the eye and shake his hand. I used to be confident I knew how to properly shake hands.

Following your last person shook the instructor’s hand, he asked, “Tell me that which you thought about my handshake. Maybe it was a great handshake or a bad handshake?” I liked his handshake. It absolutely was a strong grip like mine. His handshake confirmed in my experience I knew how to shake hands. I said, like everyone else, “good handshake.”

The real key said something that completely took me unexpectedly.

He explained the reason everybody liked his handshake was simple. He mirrored ours. In the event the handshake was firm, his was firm. Whether it was obviously a light touch, his would be a light touch. If they used their other hand to know his, his other hand grasped theirs. He stated this handshake technique creates an instant good impression and likeability.

Likeability?

Yes. It’s just like the way you feel whenever we meet a stranger and learn we share the identical name. Or much more conversation with a stranger, we learn we share a mutual friend. We magically like that person. For Shaking Hands refer to it as the Magical Handshake.

From here on, It is advisable to never, ever, shake another person’s hand. Instead, let them shake yours. Mirror the things they’re doing. If you’re offered a firm grip, mirror a strong grip. If you’re offered a gentle grip, mirror a gentle grip. Be sure you mirror the shake too. It’s everything about the grip and shake.

The only real exception happens when someone provides you with a handshake with their palm facing down. While you shake hands, they have the upper-hand and therefore are in control. They dominate. This is known as a hostile handshake.

When offered a hostile handshake, respond by giving them a Double-Handed handshake using a wee turn. Start insurance firms your palms slightly upwards, grasping their hand with you have. Then, straighten their handshake vertically using a wee turn as you’re shaking. This communicates in their mind, “we are equal.”

The next time you want to make a good first impression, provide the Magical Handshake a try. Take action whenever you meet and greet people. It’s a straightforward, surefire approach to enhance your likeability factor.
